i had the sincere and super pleasure of illustrating another wedding gift this last month (Hi October!)  the couple’s reception was held at the newly designed Minneapolis Public Library:

+ with thanks to the groom’s awesome sister, who gave me the inspiration and a great selection of large jpgs (small jpgs = more challenging portraits), we came up with an illustration that matched their aesthetic, celebrated the occasion, and was visually engaging, all-in-one !

i loved, LOVED, loved  working on this canvas!  the couple looks so giddy, head-over-heels sweetness – it was a ton of fun to draw! i took a quick snapshot of the final piece before sending it off.

this is a super fun portrait i created for an old high school friend; she gifted it off & i hear the recipient was thrilled (yay!) i’ve been attempting to keep the prismPOP facebook page up to date – but sometimes i get confused overwhelmed jumbled with all the avenues of social networking.  did you hear john mayer quit twitter?

russian artist, asaria marka, creates gorgeous lifelike images with a pencil <click for larger>

the realism is so captivating and inspiring – i’ve always felt that pencils deserve more artistic acclaim than they receive.  charcoal is messy + inexact.  i <3 graphite!

came across her work on unstage; see more there or on marka’s deviantART

remember last february, when i participated in thing-a-day by making an alphabet?  i’m looking forward to doing it again this year – with new subject matter and medium.  swap ink pen for wacom wand and font for faces; each day i’ll draw someone famous or not and post them at myconey.posterous.com – if you want me to draw you, send a photo to info@prismpop.com or leave a suggestion in the comments.  i’m not going to give it too much attention or detail but i’m excited to see what takes shape.  i’ll post favorites to this blog in march.

also – it’s not too late, go sign up yourself + join the creative spurt!

robert bosch is a fan of history and lover of integer programming.  he creates incredible portraits using strictly full domino sets.  waste not, want not. for educators, he even provides thorough step-by-step instructions in pdf format.  he details # of sets, where to find black with white dots, board to mount on, method to divide a classroom by + then some. pdf plans are available for barack obama, abraham lincoln, martin luther king jr, the statue of liberty and the mona lisa.

at the state of the black union event in february of 2008, senator cleo fields said this famed remark:

Rosa Parks sat down so we could stand up. Martin Luther King marched so Jesse Jackson could run. Jesse Jackson ran so Obama could win.

which has since been incorrectly credited to jay-z.  i am so grateful that martin marched.  happy martin luther king jr monday
