alexander girard was one of the pivotal figures in post-war american design.  best known as a mid-century textile artist for herman miller, girard was brilliant with pattern + shape. his work ranges from fabric –to–> restaurant design –to–> airline re-branding.  my favorite of all of girard’s work are his wooden dolls:

$160 each

reproductions: $160 each

influenced by countries where craft and folk art thrive, girard found inspiration from traditional processes and motifs.  he was excited by cultures seemingly untouched by industrial reform and created the dolls for personal use [objective: 1/2 decorative + 0.5 toy]

the wooden dolls now have serious competition [for #1 in my <3] : bicycles!
electra bicycle company offers two beautiful girard motifs featured on the amsterdam style
