let’s begin by acknowledging that i am awful at photographing events. moving that out of the way, we can focus on San Francisco’s Bazaar Bizarre at Maker Faire!
organizers were so sweet to greet us with a healthy assortment saturday morning. water, apple, granola bar, chips, chocolate and pirate booty – perfect ammunition for a day in san mateo.
set-up was friday, which was an incredible luxury. the extra day gave me the opportunity to not only situate myself but preview the phenomenal array of artisans and engineers at the maker faire. i wandered through each tent and introduced myself to fellow brooklyn-ites @ the etsy table (which was several tents away near other -more mechanic- DIYers), watched a recycled bottle display + learned about the scheduled indoor lightening show with credit to nikola tesla
it turns out that the maker faire is particularly trendy amongst lovers of steampunk. i first really learned about the trend at rutgers in april. steampunk is like serious vintage. those who adore it have a fascination with the time of steam powered engines. a pretty interesting interactive machine was set up near by.
steampunk fans love gears and intricate rotating parts. clothes often include corsets and aviation goggles. the blurry snapshot captures an attendee with incredible back piece:
he also had pilot the eyewear i mentioned, plus a trendy moustache. also pictured to the right in red is Tara of Tara to the T. table neighbors we were – tara sells beautiful feather headwear, cute retro dresses + steampunk jewelry. the art direction in her product shots is really stunning. another neighbor of mine was Vonnie from chicks & frogs. she too had great photography including this hilarious snapshot:
all in all, everyone – including the folks at home depot – was <were?> incredibly kind and friendly. i am really looking forward to my return trip in july for renegade!
i had to squeeze touristy in – a drive down the windiest road and trip to tartine fit the bill.
