berlin has long since established itself as a trendsetting metropolis. germany’s capital city pushes boundaries of design, fashion and global awareness.
it’s no wonder that brazilian artist nele azevedo chose the concert hall at gendarmenmarkt square in berlin for her most recent melting men / world wildlife fund project location. the temporary installation is intended to raise awareness about global warming: one thousand ice sculptures melt in under thirty minutes and call attention to rising sea levels due to melting ice caps. the message is heavy and serious, but the visual beauty of her work is light and playful.
